At Rifugio Austin we are dedicated to honoring each child’s individuality while fostering a deep love of learning.
Our differentiated approach combines structure and freedom, allowing students to explore their interests within a supportive framework that cultivates their own motivation in an inclusive, mixed-age environment.
Learning together through curiosity, exploration, and creation
We work together
To follow an idea, creating self-initiated projects and later, self-guided ones. We cultivate intrinsic motivation and develop an understanding of one’s own process.
We Are Rifugio Austin
Mucho gusto! My name is Sofia Gamba, and my journey has been deeply shaped by my bicultural and bilingual upbringing, moving frequently between Mexico City and the United States. This unique experience instilled in me a profound appreciation for both cultures and fueled my passion for education. My early years at a Montessori school in South Texas were particularly formative, where I fell in love with learning through the nurturing guidance of Miss Elsie, whose gentle kindness and artistic spirit left an indelible mark on me. Those years kindled my passion for working with children and set the foundation for my lifelong commitment to education.
After earning my degree in Psychology from UT, I honed my skills working with children at a pedagogy center in Cuernavaca, Mexico, supporting kids with behavioral and learning challenges through play therapy and tutoring. This deeply meaningful work solidified my calling to serve children with understanding, love, and laughter. My career then took me to New York City, where I worked as an administrator at The Washington Market School, reconnecting with the Montessori philosophy that had brought me so much joy. Eventually, I returned to Austin with a clear purpose: to become a Montessori educator. I have since had the privilege of guiding radiant young learners, from toddlers to six-year-olds, who continue to challenge and inspire me every day.
Hello! Hola! Ciao! I’m Ariana DiNielli, the founder of Rifugio Austin. Growing up in Los Angeles in a multicultural, open-minded household, I was shaped by my early experiences in a Reggio-Emilia school, where play and exploration laid the foundation for my love of learning. My journey has taken me across the globe—from studying in Rome to teaching in Spain and immersing myself in plant-based cooking, a passion I bring to Rifugio. Inspired by the Rifugios of Northern Italy, I aim to create a space that fosters connection, creativity, and a deep appreciation for nature and culture.
My passion lies in creating a nurturing, dynamic space where children are seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are. My approach is rooted in building connections—co-regulating with students, guiding their academic and personal growth, and fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom. I am deeply committed to blending structure with freedom, integrating traditional academics with creative expression, and cultivating an environment where every child feels empowered to thrive.
Hi, I’m Morgan! I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, spending much of my childhood exploring and connecting with the outdoors. Those early years sparked my curiosity about the world, and the support of my teachers and enrichment programs helped shape my path.
I earned a biology degree at GW University, and later returned to a childhood dream of learning to weld and create metal sculptures, discovering how fulfilling art can be.
I have worked in Montessori education, as a co-guide and art teacher. I am excited to bring together my love for science and art—two fields that build curiosity, resilience, and perspective. Childhood is such a profound time for learning and growth, and I feel honored to be part of that journey.
Investigating the world while cultivating lifelong skills
We guide students in understanding both the world around them and their inner world. We give meaning and insight to the information they study, so their ideas can take shape and soar as far as their imagination allows.
Prioritize critical skills like divergent thinking and interdisciplinary learning
We create lessons with our students, channeling our collective creativity to understand how our world works, what is of importance and relevance in our lives, and in questioning the world around us.
We integrate our project-based approach with Singapore Math and apply the Orton- Gillingham Approach for literacy
This approach combines multi-sensory movement to enhance reading and writing skills. Our program includes a scientific and exploratory workshop.
Each lesson is designed to foster deep mental connections and often incorporates an artistic or three-dimensional element. Using a wide variety of materials, we ensure lessons are hands-on, visual, and connect to the style of learning your child needs.
We also explore activities such as plant-based cooking, meditation, and other 21st-century skills that are integral to self-discovery and acquiring knowledge.
