Rifugio Austin believes in following the child’s interests. When there is a spark, there is passion and connection to what the child is experiencing. This results in creating a strong, unwavering foundation of love of learning in each child.  All traditional subjects, such as language arts, geography, mathematics, science, reading, and more can and are woven into a project making the direct connection for the child’s whole-body, whole-mind learning.

Rifugio Austin is a safe, nurturing environment for your child where they will feel at home. By providing a stable, secure space, your children will naturally explore, experiment, create, dream, and do. This environment is inclusive and children are respected as individuals that are unique and on their own learning journey. By opening up dialogues in a calm voice and respectful manner, children feel safe to open up and let their true selves be seen and heard. 

Health, wealth, and happiness comes from within. Rifugio Austin dives into the essence and science of nutrition. Hands-on projects include gardening, sowing seeds, understanding nutrients and vitamins, and cooking. When children are involved in the process and understand what they are eating, their culinary worlds open up. 

We implement and follow Singapore Math’s curriculum.

We implement and follow Orton Gillingham’s Method and curriculum. It is multi-sensorial, explicit, and direct instruction. We begin in the early years with phonological awareness and pre-reading skills and continue on to advanced language structure. 

Rifugio Austin believes in keeping numbers low so that each child has the space and attention they deserve. The ratio is 1 teacher to every 7 students, with a maximum of 15 students per grade.

Our currrent classroom is ages 5-9 years old. 

Located on 1/2 acre, the outside playground provides ample opportunities for children to move their bodies while learning and having fun. Whether it be a hands-on science experiment, working in the garden, or a yoga class outside, each child will be soaking up the sunshine and breathing the fresh air outdoors. 

Yoga, meditation, music, acting, and dance class are all offered. Movement and sound are an important component of connecting each child to their body and their surroundings, all while having fun! 

Our school day starts at 8am- 3:15pm. We offer an after-school program that runs from 3:15pm- 5:00pm.
